THANK YOU TO OUR SUPPORTERS

We called, you answered.

Thank you to all who have generously supported Craft Ontario during this uncertain time.

To date, we have raised over $41,000 – thank you for your contributions. It is because of your generous donations and continued support that we can move closer to remaining open in 2018.

We are seeking $13,000 more in support from our community. We are endlessly grateful for how much support you have shown us over these past weeks. Let's keep the momentum going!

We want to hear from you, and are planning a Town Hall meeting for January – please let us know your availability

Next Steps

$26,000 is an amazing start to our community donation target of $54,000, and our overall goal of $250,000. To provide further insight into this number, here is a breakdown of the amount Craft Ontario needs to raise in donations and support on a monthly basis:

January      Feburary      March     April     May     June
$32,000   $70,000   $28,000   $1,500   $5,000   $10,000

By the end of December 2018, a final $103,000 needs to be raised in order to have a stable cash flow balance going into 2019 for ongoing operations and programming at 1106 Queen Street West.

Where are we seeking support?
Private Donations:
  $92,000
Community Donations:
  $54,000
Government & Financing:
  $104,000
Why $250k?

Craft Ontario still has the ability and capacity to deliver its vital programming – what the organization faces now is a cash flow crisis. If this is overcome, Craft Ontario can remain in its current location while working to improve and restructure its annual programming.

The cost of moving locations in 2016 had a detrimental impact on the organization's cash flow:

  • Through missed operational budget targets
  • Moving and renovation expenses
  • The Shop missing forecasted sales targets

All of these factors have resulted in an inability to stabilize cash flow and pay existing 2016 debts.

Over the last decade, Craft Ontario, like many arts organizations, has been impacted by:

  • Struggling to secure stable annual funding and donations
  • Having to cut expenses and reduce staff
  • Toronto's increasing rental costs
  • Navigating the shifting landscape of the retail sector

The move from Yorkville to Queen St. W. took place in order to reduce facility costs for the entire organization, and with the intention of creating a stable basis for moving forward.

We have learned from our current situation, and now we need the support and time to change. We are working to keep what our community values about Craft Ontario, and evolve the organization into a thriving institution that serves you better than it ever has before.

To help us move forward, we want to hear from you. We are planning a Town Hall meeting in January, please let us know your availability.

Craft Ontario is crucial to the craft community – no one can afford to lose this 41 year-old organization and the support that it uniquely provides for professional craftspeople.
