Originally from Seoul, Korea, Joon Hee Kim is a Canadian artist. She began her artist journey as graphic designer, and after working extensively as art director in South Korea she combined the passion for design with patisserie studies consisting of various areas of creativity as chef, before becoming intrigued with ceramics at Sheridan College. After completed her Masters in Fine art at Chelsea College of Arts in UK, her professional practice was also undertaken to Europe and Japan. Brimming with personal anecdotes and engaging narratives, her work was exhibited in Canada, USA, and UK and her latest solo exhibition will take place at The Clay & Glass Gallery.
Through innovative challenges of daily life, she is the recipient of many awards including Craft Ontario Council, the Volunteer Committee Emerging Professional Award, as well as the Best of Craft and Design and Best of Ceramics at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition. Following the Open Studio Residence 2017 in Haystack, she was one of six-selected artists for Canadian Craft Biennial. After receiving Canada Council for the Arts grant, she participated in an international residency at Ceramic Centre Residency in Berlin, and the Ceramic Artist Exchange Tandem 2019 Residency in Neumünster, Germany.
