Cassic Ho (Sihui He) is a designer and artist based in the Greater Toronto Area, working primarily in furniture and object design, photography, drawing and painting. She is a recent graduate from the Craft and Design Furniture program at Sheridan College. Prior to her venture into design and woodworking, Cassic was formally educated in drawing and painting at several arts training centers from a young age.
After exploring visual arts at the Guangzhou High School of Fine Arts in China, Cassic was able to gain a much broader vision of functional design as an international student in Canada. Working both individually and collaboratively, Cassic developed a methodical work process and an increased awareness of the possibilities behind handcraft and design by using both digital and traditional modes of making. Multicultural experiences have allowed her to visualize objects and express ideas in two and three dimensions, with a particular respect for material and quality craftsmanship.
By integrating contemporary unobtrusive design, Cassic strives to create furniture and objects that are functionally responsible to their end-users and visually engaging to the environment. Moreover, she is interested in the subtle relationships between the user, the object, and the culture of design that enhance the emotional and physical aspects of life and behavior.
