JULIANA SCHERZER
HELEN FRANCES GREGOR AWARD

Juliana Scherzer is a textile artist working out of Toronto, Canada with a Bachelor of Craft and Design, focused in Textiles from Sheridan College. Juliana has worked with children teaching them about art for the past three years and wants to go forward teaching people the value of art and craft in our lives, sharing her knowledge and learning from others. Juliana works primarily in free-motion embroidery on water soluble fabric, creating 3D structures out of thread. Her work seeks to reflect the duality of the known and unknown places of textiles in our lives, a concept she seeks to explore through various themes, particularly biology. Juliana is creating gallery pieces from these themes, creating an engaging and exciting opportunity to learn and to transfer that knowledge to others. With each piece Juliana seeks to teach people about the topics in of her work, be it a historical event or the multitude of proteins used in your body to heal a paper cut. Juliana hopes to create work that engages a viewer in the same ways she is engaged with these topics while creating her work.
