JUDY MARTIN
CRAFT ONTARIO VOLUNTEER COMMITTEE MID-CAREER AWARD FOR EXCELLENCE

Judy Martin stitches from her heart. She holds an HBFA (chancellor’s medal) from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, and a BA in Embroidered Textiles from Middlesex University in London England. Recent solo exhibitions of her large tactile drawings include Mended World, organized by the Thunder Bay Art Gallery in 2013 and The Cloud in Me at the David Kaye Gallery in Toronto in 2017. Her work is published in several books including Slow Stitch: Mindful and Contemplative Textile Art by Claire Wellseley Smith, Art Quilts International: Abstract and Geometric by Martha Sielman and Art Quilts Unfolding: 50 Years of Innovation edited by Sandra Sider. Judy Martin has exhibited internationally in the USA, Europe and Japan as well as across Canada. Her award-winning work is included in several private and public collections. “I use the aesthetics of simplicity, time, labour, and repetition in combination with the sense of touch. My inner cloud of immensity and the rush of everyday life both become stitched into the fabrics in my lap over lengthy periods of time.”
