Citizens of Craft

Citizens of Craft is a national project, led by Craft Ontario, in participation with the provincial and territorial craft councils of Canada, as well as the Canadian Crafts Federation. The goals of this project are to clarify and deepen the public’s understanding of craft and make craft more accessible to Canadians.

Citizens of Craft is a movement. A movement of makers, of appreciators, of shoppers, of admirers – of anyone whose values match our values of heritage, innovation, the leading edge, traditional, authentic, and entrepreneurial.

Citizens of Craft is a movement because there is a great need to unify the voices, to stop trying to define craft but instead to celebrate its diversity – what it is, what it represents, and who it defines – those who make and those who appreciate. A movement is a way for craft professionals to say, "this is what I do, this is what I am – come share my passion." A movement is a way for appreciators to say, "this is what I love, this is what I value, this is who I am."

The culmination of all of the efforts behind this movement are realized in the Citizens of Craft website and its Craft Finder where you can experience and locate craft from Whitehorse to St. John’s. This website allows everyone – Canadians and visitors to our country alike – to experience and access craft more readily and in a rich and easily searchable environment.

As a Craft ProfessionalStudentAffiliate or Business member of Craft Ontario, you can:
  • Showcase your craft both to the existing craft community and those who are discovering and purchasing craft
  • Be presented to site visitors through a wide array of robust searching options
  • Provide you the ability to post and promote personal or community craft events
  • And, most importantly, be part of a mass online exhibit of Canadian craft
To create a profile, you will need:
  • Your Craft Ontario membership number
  • A high-quality image of yourself
  • Several high-quality images of your work
  • A list of stores that sell your work (if applicable)
  • Links to your social media accounts (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest)
  • Your website URL

How do I book an event?

Use the online form to fill out a request for your desired event, and Craft Ontario staff will get back to you within two business days.

Can I have extra time to set up and clean up?

The time of your event proposal or booking with us should include the time that you need to set up and clean up your event. This will be coordinated between your team and ours.

What is your cancellation policy?

If you are renting the space for a fee, we require a minimum of ten (10) business days advance notice to cancel any bookings without financial penalty. If this time requirement is not met, Craft Ontario will charge the full amount of the booking.

How do I pay for the rental?

Once your event is approved through the online application booking form, Craft Ontario will send you an electronic invoice for the amount of the rental which will include payment instructions.

Events may not start earlier than 9:00 am or run past 10:00 pm.

What if my proposed event requires more than one day?

The use of CO Space depends on overall availability. If an event, such as an exhibition, is requested for multiple days, the alloted time cannot overlap with other bookings and Craft Ontario events.

We require a three-hour minimum rental for event spaces.

Can I serve food at my event?
